A Basket Wreath

A tisket, a tasket, I made an Easter Basket!

 Isn't it fun?!

I wanted to make an Easter wreath that would last all spring.  I had in mind something that looked like a basket full of flowers.  So I had the idea of taking a wire wreath form and wrapping it in burlap to mimic the basket shape and adding a whole bunch of flowers.

I love how it turned out!

 I think it still has that Easter feel with the basket, but it'll look good until I get around to replacing it.  Love that!

The bow tucked into the corner is probably my favorite part.

The day I made this I met with a few friends from my neighborhood and we all made wreaths, but I forgot to bring my camera.  So I don't have picture instructions, but I'll do my best to describe the process.

You start out with a wire wreath form.... one kinda like this.

Then get some burlap ribbon or strips of burlap.  I couldn't find ribbon so I ended up getting some burlap fabric and cutting it into strips.  Start by wrapping half the form to make the handle of the basket.  Then take strips of burlap and wrap the burlap all the way across the front of the  frame and hot glue on the back.  Continue down the second half of the wreath to create the basket.

So now you have the basic basket.  You can now add your flowers and embellishments!  I just tucked the flowers into the different strips of burlap, hot-gluing and/or tying it to the back.

Anyway... It took me about an hour from start to finish and I love it! I hope you'll give it a try!

Baby Shower Invitations

So my little sister is having a baby in June... (I can't wait!!!) and I am co-hosting a baby shower for her at the end of this month.  Of course I made the invitation and they turned out so cute, I had to share!  The theme of our shower is going to be "Mommy to Bee" and we are going to decorate in pink, yellow, and black.  I think it will be really cute.

Here is how my invites turned out.

Aren't they cute!  I made the image using this digital kit by Faith True Originals.

I manipulated the red in the kit to make it a hot pink since we are expecting a little girl.  I think the bright pink, yellow, and black makes such a cute color combination.

I printed my images at Costco and then mounted them to pink card-stock using black photo-corners and a little bit of double sided tape.  The card-stock helps give the pictures some weight.

So anyway... that's it.  I'm in charge of all the decorations for the shower so I will show you what else I come up with as it happens.

Hello everyone!  Krystal from Sassy Sanctuary here today!  So are you in love with the silhouette bunnies Crafty Sisters made?  I am!  I totally am going to have to make some for Easter.  Silhouettes are such a fun theme and really about anything goes.  I'm excited to see what the other ladies came up with!

Any-who... for my silhouette project I decided to make a Shamrock.  It was such a fun and EASY project!  I love those kinds!  Ready to see?

Isn't it cute!  It actually inspired me to decorate a little vignette on the shelf-wall of my family room.  This is the first time that I have decorated this spot and I love how it looks!

To make your own shamrock silhouette all you need is an unfinished frame, a shamrock cut from 1" pine, some paint and some ribbon.

A shamrock would be an easy cut for a newbie with a jig saw or scroll saw... but I actually found mine already cut at a local scrapbook store for only $6.  Sometimes the short cuts are worth the time they save!

I painted the frame a dark grey and the shamrock green and Modge Podged some scrapbook paper to it.  Then I hot glued the shamrock to the frame and tied a big ole bow around the whole thing.

I LOVE the pattern of the green houndstooth!

Seriously, this was way easy... one afternoon from start to finish.

It's WYLTC week!

It's Wood You Like to Craft week again!  Our theme this month is silhouette.  Crafty Sisters started us off with their A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E bunnies...

and I'm there today sharing a shamrock...

It's a double rainbow!!!!

OMG!  It's so intense!  A double rainbow!!!

What does this mean?!

Haha... you guys have all seen the Double Rainbow video right?  It is so funny!

Anyway, when I set out to do my mantle display for St. Patrick's Day I was actually inspired by Landee's cute rainbow display.  But I wanted to do it in a banner.  I made mine a double rainbow.  :)

It was simple.  I just cut the little flags out of card-stock and strung them up with some yarn.

I added my shamrock garden from last year and some greenery.

And the other side has some of the same stuff from my last two displays.

And that's it.  I love how happy it is.  Spring, please come quickly!!!

Recipe Card- Free Printable!!!

My Husband LOVES Salsa.  If you were to ask him what his favorite food is he would say "chips and salsa".... if you can even call that a food.  Anyway, I have tried many salsa recipes and tweaked a few to make them my own and thought I had salsa mastered.  Turns out I was only close.

The other day I was browsing Pinterest (of course) and came upon a salsa recipe that intrigued me.  The reason I was so intrigued is that it was my exact "perfect" recipe but with two added ingredients.  Rotel tomatoes and honey.  Weird.  I had to try it out.

Turns out those two little things make all the difference.  This stuff is insane.  My husband thinks he has died and gone to salsa heaven.  In fact, he is on this 6th jar this week. (and 2nd box of Prilosec.)

Well, one of his buddies from work begged for a jar so I made up another batch to send to work.  I wanted to give him the recipe with it too but I don't just give away recipes.... I give away freaking adorable recipes.  :)

 And there is no point in making a freaking adorable recipe card without giving it to you guys too.

Lucky Yarn Wreath

Yesterday I was in the mood for a quick craft so I decided to make a new wreath for St. Patrick's day.  It was super easy and turned out pretty dang cute if I do say so myself.

All I did was take a straw wreath form (or you could use foam... whichever is cheaper) and wrap it with green yarn.

And wrap and wrap and wrap.  I enlisted the help of my five year old for this.  He held the ball of yarn and did the wrapping while I adjusted the spacing and kept everything tight.  With his help we had it done in about 30 minutes or so.

Then I hot glued a great big green and white bow on the top.

My secret to perfect bows is wired ribbon.  It makes all the difference!!!

The letters for the word "lucky" I found at Micheal's already painted white and glittered.  As much as I love painting its sometimes nice to find stuff already done!

I just hot glued the letters down another piece of the green ribbon and secured it to my wreath with a few sewing pins.  Like this...

That way if i ever want to remove the lucky banner and use the wreath for something else I can.  I'm not sure I ever will but its nice to have options!

And that's it!

A super cute new wreath for my front door in a little over an hour. I love crafts like that!

Gallery Wall

When we moved into our new house I knew I wanted to do a gallery wall.... Somewhere.  It took me awhile to figure out where the best place for that was going to be but I finally made a decision (the hardest part), gathered all my family pictures and put my plan into action.

I just decided on a layout on the floor and then picked a picture to begin with and hung everything up.  I started on the bottom right and went from there.  I've heard some great tips for gallery walls like making paper templates for each picture and taping them on the wall to figure out the placement, but I was too lazy.  I just did it the old fashion way with a tape measure, a washable marker, and a hammer.

I'm quite proud of the result.

Most of my frames were black and I was planning on painting the couple that weren't... but once I got it laid out I kinda liked the added color.  I may still paint them but I decided to leave it for now and see how I feel about it.  What do you guys think?

I do love the addition of the candle sconces and "family" to break up the gallery and it fills up this otherwise awkward wall.

 I still have a few more things to do to make the dining room "complete."  I need to lower the light and move it a little to the left and then paint the handrail. 

But I'm taking it one step at a time and for now just enjoying looking at all those cute little faces!

Hello everyone!  Krystal from Sassy Sanctuary here.  It's my favorite time of the month again!  Wood You Like to Craft time!!!!  Since we are in February I naturally wanted to make a project for the big "LOVE" day and I needed something for my front door.  So this is what I came up with.

I never know what to call these kind of things..... I guess its a wreath but not really.  The official title could be a wooden-heart-mobile-door-hanging-thingy.  :)

Whatever you want to call it, it was super fun to make!

All I did was get some plywood and cut out the heart shape with my jig saw.  From there you can decorate it however you want!

I covered the center heart in a piece of scrapbook paper.  Distressed the heck out of it and then hot glued on the little wooden letters.  I got them at Hobby Lobby.

The outer heart I just painted by hand in stripes using colors from my paper design.

As you can see the stripes are far from perfect.  I knew perfect wasn't going to happen so I varied the width and style of each strip so the imperfections would look on purpose.  And I distressed the heck out the that too!

It still needed a little something at this point so I made some felt flowers and put an arrow through the whole thing.

The arrow was a last minute add on.  I ended up just using a couple of skewer, like the ones for kabobs, that I had in my kitchen stash.  Its just hot glued to the back of the heart and then further secured with some felt hot-glued over the top.  The arrow tip and bottom are also just hot-glued on pieces of felt.

It was really a simple thing but I think the arrow made a big difference with the cuteness factor!

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that the two hearts are simply attached to each other by a peice of ribbon stapled to the back.  I also made a little loop at the top to hang the whole thing from.  You need that! :)

So that's it!  My Valentine's wood project.  And it does look pretty dang cute hanging on my front door.  Love it!

I can't wait to see what the rest of the WYLTC ladies come up with!
